Doug Jones pulled out an electoral victory in the reddest state in the Union because his voters turned out.
Turned out better than in the last presidential election. Turned out better than the GOP expected.
For that, I’m ecstatic.
But I will watch reports about efforts to keep likely Democratic voters from casting a ballot.
Those who want to limit access to the polls have become more sophisticated than a century ago, when race or illiteracy was the disqualifier.
Now, it’s more likely to be ID requirements, shorter polling hours, or bad voter lists.
So in the afterglow of the Jones victory, let’s not stop efforts to allow all citizens to vote.
